Some seasons arrive quietly, almost tiptoeing in. Autumn is one of them. The days grow just a little shorter, the air turns crisper and, almost without noticing, we find ourselves watching the sunset a few minutes earlier.

And then there’s red. The red of leaves beginning to change colour, the warm hues of September and October sunsets, and above all, the vibrant red of pomegranates, finally ripe and looking like little treasure chests filled with rubies.

This is exactly the time of year when we feel like slowing down, setting a table outdoors, perhaps with a few candles, calling some friends over and enjoying an aperitivo without too many plans. Because early autumn has an atmosphere all of its own: summer is over, but it’s not quite time for chunky sweaters and evenings on the sofa just yet. It’s that lovely in-between moment when we still enjoy being outdoors, and a good cocktail feels like the most natural thing in the world.

And there’s room in this palette of reds for a little style detail, too: a pair of red Friulane by Sentier, perfectly in tune with the season. Soft, colourful and effortlessly chic, they’re the kind of accessory that doesn’t need to shout to give an outfit character. A touch of red at your feet, just like the pomegranate in your glass.

And if summer has its own collection of fresh, carefree drinks, autumn brings flavours with a little more depth. This is where Select comes into the picture, with its unmistakable red hue and the distinctive character of the Venetian aperitivo, paired this time with the fresh, slightly tart taste of pomegranate.

The Pomegranate Cocktail

A simple recipe to prepare without a second thought and serve when friends come over.

Ingredients for one glass

  • 5 cl Select
  • 6 cl pomegranate juice
  • 2 cl soda water or sparkling water
  • Ice
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • A slice or twist of orange peel

How to make it

Fill a wine glass or a lowball glass with ice. Pour in the Select and pomegranate juice, then gently top with soda water.

Stir slowly and gently, without overdoing it: the cocktail should remain fresh and lively.

Finish with a few pomegranate seeds and a twist of orange peel.

The final touch? Serve it just before your friends arrive. The vibrant red will do the rest.

You don’t need much else: a few nibbles, a simply set table, red Friulane on your feet and the people with whom it’s always a pleasure to lose track of time.

Because perhaps that’s what makes autumn so special: rediscovering the pleasure of life’s little things. A ripe fruit, a red sunset, a ruby-coloured drink and friends gathered around a table.

And, of course, a good aperitivo to toast the new season.
